Darfur Women Action Group

darfur women action group (dwag) is a u.s. based, women-led, anti-atrocities organization. dwag works with victims and survivors of the darfur genocide in the diaspora and back home in sudan, providing them with more access to the tools that will enable them to lead the effort to combat violence, address massive human rights abuses in their society and work with others to prevent future atrocities and promote global peace. the core priority for darfur women action group lies in advancing human rights and supporting darfuri to meet the challenges of the 21st century. we do this by supporting women ngos at the local and national level in the us and on the ground in darfur, aiming to build their capacity to lead and promote desirable change and to provide opportunities for the international community to hear directly from those most affected by the conflict. founder and president niemat ahmadi, a native of north darfur, founder and the president of darfur women action group and the director of global partnerships for united to end genocide, which involves promoting greater outreach to the civil societies worldwide, particularly those representing the communities affected by genocide and mass atrocities from the regions that ueg is working to address. she is a founding member of the darfuri leaders network, a coalition of over twenty u.s.-based darfuri organizations working to promote peace and security in darfur. she served as an advisor at the seventh round of inter-sudanese darfur peace talks in abuja, nigeria 2006. ahmadi has been recognized by former president george w. bush as one of the 8 global human rights fighters for freedom of their people of the year, along with representatives from 7 other countries in july 2008.
