the au pair group under foa started last july 2011 with few members. later on, it was formalized as part of the union foa in august 2011. the au pair group chose a spokesperson from among themselves and formed a board. because of hard work and dedication, the au pair group’s work became known to many au pairs. what does foa offers to au pairs? the au pair scheme is officially a cultural exchange programme but over the last years it is our experience that some families consider the au pair scheme as a way of getting cheap labour and sometimes forget to respect the regulations in the au pair scheme. most often we encounter that au pairs have problems with: • unpaid salary • working for more than 5 hours a day • holiday and/or holiday payment • evictions from host families • payment of e.g. plane ticket • and many more foa assists au pairs in cases like the above and we also help with a wide range of other issues. memberships a membership of foa costs 25 danish kroner a month. for this amount you receive: • free counselling • legal assistance (lawyer) • help at your local foa branch • life insurance at pensam • invitations to social events • network with other au pairs • invitations to skills training events • temporary shelter (referral to individual contacts) jade carreon: ”foa assisted me when my family asked me to work 15 hours a day. foa helped me to obtain a compensation to the amount of 22.884,75 danish kroner in lost wages and holiday payment.” you can join as a member by signing at www.foa.dk/aupair.
