starboard restructuring partners is an independent restructuring firm focused on advisory, distressed investing and provision of interim management. we founded starboard to fill a gap in the brazilian market for sophisticated restructuring solutions and funding for distressed companies. the firm was founded in january 2017 by a team of 25 restructuring and operational professionals who began working together in 2013, having executed 17 highly complex restructuring transactions since then. circa us$ 1.0b of new money was raised and deployed as catalyst for these completed transactions. the team pioneered innovative restructuring techniques and new ways of working with shareholders and creditors of distressed companies in brazil. through our advisory services we gain operational and financial insight into companies that allow us to identify opportunities to catalyze restructuring settlements through injection of capital and lead to exclusive invitations from shareholders and creditors to participate and/or advise in funding. to seize these opportunities, we raised the first special situations fund for single-name distressed investing in brazil, in september 2015, with total capital commitment of r$ 123m, of which r$ 87m has been invested in four targets; one of which has been exited. the investee companies include largely known brands and well established business in different sectors including industrials & engineering, apparel retail, mining and shipbuilding. our goal is to provide bespoke solutions for businesses with inefficient capital structures while simultaneously protecting and enhancing enterprise value. our extensive experience and unparalleled credibility with market participants in the brazilian restructuring market allow us to find optimal solutions to highly complex problems and measure our performance not by short-term results but by the long-term success of our clients. when partnering with starboard, you can expect significant engagement with veteran dealmakers and industry experts, first-class transaction execution and the highest standard of discretion.
